Strategic and Operational Finance

Counterculture’s approach to strategic finance is to make finance work effectively in the simplest possible way. We understand that finance exists solely as a means to help realise the strategy and vision of organisations and that’s exactly what we endeavour to make it do. Organisations are increasingly turning to external advice – either because their business is too small for a full-time finance director, or because of the independent perspective of an experienced finance professional. Counterculture’s work is tailored to each client’s level of need – from a few hours of specialist help each year on specific strategic issues, to several days a week as a part-time finance director.

Our outsourced financial director services typically include reporting to the Chief Executive and board on their organisation’s financial performance, and working with the organisation’s leadership to ensure that finance supports its strategic objectives. We oversee responsibility for accurate, relevant and timely management information – and ensure that finance functions, usually operated by the organisation’s own staff, are effective and economical, putting in place efficient systems and tight controls. We advise on reserves policy and the strategic management of cashflow and treasury management – as well as having input into investment policy.

Our work plays a key role in the strategic and business planning process, including budgeting and risk management. We ensure compliance with VAT and other taxes, and advise on a range of related strategic areas including commercial and legal issues. Overall, we strive to institute a culture of good financial management that will help the organisation achieve its strategy and realise its potential.
